AHEAD, Inc. Inaugurates New Basketball and Volleyball Courts at Maruku Secondary School
In a joyful celebration of community, youth empowerment, and international partnership, the brand-new basketball and volleyball courts at Maruku Secondary School were officially inaugurated on Saturday, July 12th, 2025. The special event was graced by the District Commissioner of Bukoba, Hon. Erasto Siima, who delivered inspiring remarks before cutting the ceremonial ribbon to open the courts for play.
This significant milestone is the latest achievement in the ongoing collaboration between AHEAD, Inc. (Adventures in Health, Education, and Agriculture) based in the United States, and local Tanzanian stakeholders. The celebration was attended by Dr. Donna Williams-Ngirwa, Executive Director of AHEAD, Inc. (US), along with 18 American volunteers, AHEAD-Tanzania partners, students, school leadership, and members of the Maruku community.
The newly constructed courts, built at a cost of Tsh 56 million, symbolize more than just a place for sports—they are a beacon of opportunity, unity, and growth for young people in the region. In a heartfelt gesture of further support, AHEAD, Inc. also donated 35 computers to Maruku Secondary School, valued at approximately Tsh 20 million, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to both physical and digital education.
“As we open this court today, we are not just opening a sports facility—we are opening doors to health, discipline, teamwork, and dreams,” said Dr. Williams-Ngirwa during the ceremony. “We believe that through sports and education, young people can build the confidence and skills to become tomorrow’s leaders.”
The celebration continues into the week, as from July 14th to 16th, a team of specialist doctors from the United States and Tanzania will offer free medical services and consultations at Maruku Health Center—another initiative spearheaded by AHEAD, Inc.
This partnership marks a shining example of what can be achieved when communities come together with a shared vision of development.
