AHEAD, Inc. received an Ashden Trust Award, the world's only award for renewable energy, in London on March 14, 2002 for its successful projects in preventing diarrheal diseases.

AHEAD has implemented projects to teach Tanzanians to pasteurize their water, an undertaking that is on the cutting edge of solving the spread of diarrheal diseases, the second leading cause of death of children in Tanzania
